Francesca embroiders old postcards and photos, turning them into original works of needlework.
About the page author
Francesca Colussi Kramer began embroidering on old postcards and photos about five years ago. Then she found a small vintage shop near her home, where she saw these postcards. She was delighted with the romantic and nostalgic feelings that these images gave her, and began to add stitches to them with thread to complement them and as if to make contact with them.

What is this page about
On Francesca’s Instagram page, her original embroidered work is based on old photos and postcards, which she still buys in that same shop and finds at fairs and online stores with vintage. Her embroidery can abstractly decorate the image or logically complement it, in both cases forcing you to look at the picture in a new way. “Adding embroidery to paper changes the existing surface. It creates a rich interesting texture and contrast with the original image,” says Francesca. “This is both visual and tactile. And the fact that I do this not on fabric, but on paper, has, of course , some difficulties, but it also gives new opportunities, from time to time more and more intriguing me.This is a kind of conversation with the past - such as, for example, removing a layer of dust from something, adding color to a black and white photo or book - another chapter.
