Some important tips that will protect you from disappointment when working with denim stretch are in our selection.

1. Roll the denim stretch, but do not iron it with steam

Before work, the material must be decanted, wet-heat treatment should be carried out. Craftswomen advise in case of denim stretch to wet the fabric in hot water, then in cold, then dry.

The second option: wash in the machine at the temperature at which you will wash the finished product (maximum 40 degrees). It is believed that washing denim is better even twice. The fabric can shrink 2-10 cm per 1 meter!

It is better to refrain from ironing with denim steam stretch (this also applies to the finished product): exposure to too high temperature together with moisture can adversely affect elastic fibers, and the material will lose its appearance and properties.

3. Adjust the pattern

Stretch fabric implies smaller allowances for freedom of fit. It is especially important to adjust the pattern if it is designed for sewing from a fabric that does not stretch. But even if you choose a pattern that initially involves stretch material, sweep away the details, measure the thing and make the necessary adjustments - different types of denim stretch can stretch in different ways.

4. The belt is better to strengthen

Often, denim stretch sew skirts and trousers. To prevent the belt from stretching when worn, reinforce this part. This can be done with non-woven, doublerin, also by adding a corsage tape. If you want the belt to remain elastic, use elastic non-woven.

5. Work on the edges of parts and seams

Denim stretch is often not the best way to behave if it remains unprocessed. Use an overlock or machine zigzag stitch. Some craftswomen process seams with a thin slanting inlay, if the thickness of the denim allows.

6. Sew with a special needle

Practices agree on this issue: to sew denim stretch you need a special needle! Focus on the thickness of your material and its elasticity. If denim is thin, with a high coefficient of stretch, take a needle for stretch fabrics. If the fabric is thicker, grab a denim needle.

7. Attention to multi-layered areas

This applies to sewing any denim: areas where the fabric is folded into several layers, especially thick, you need to "pass" carefully. In the case of ordinary denim, it helps to iron such areas with steam well. For denim stretch, this method is not recommended, it is better to gently tap such places with a hammer. In particularly thick places, turn the machine wheel manually.

8. Do not stretch the seams

Do not pull too much material during sewing so as not to get stretched wave-like seams. One way to avoid stretching is to put a sheet of paper under the fabric.
